Birthday Cakes and Game of Thrones

Well, there's not much like getting pelted in the face with snow and ice. We are getting hit by a snow storm, though who knows how bad it's actually going to be. I'm hoping its not going to be as terrible as everyone thinks. But we'll see.

Anyways, yesterday I actually got internet in my apartment! I am all moved in to my new place in Marshfield, and I knew once I was here I would definitely want internet. So, here I sit comfortably on my own couch posting on my own laptop! Feels good. ;)
Now, to the point of my post, it was recently Bri's 25th birthday! The family put together a nice little get together party for her. And, of course, I made a cake!
I practiced how to make hibiscus flowers, because Bri likes Hawaiian flowers so I felt it fitting to put them on a cake! :) I was very happy with how it turned out! The cake flavor is special too! It's a tropical mango cake with tropical mango frosting filling, frosted with my buttercream. Well, the whole family thought it was delicious! There was a lot of people, and had I known so many would be there I would have made it bigger. Haha! But it was a good size, just no leftovers ;)

So, now to decide what to do with the rest of my evening while I'm snowed in. Honestly what I should do is start one of my knitting projects, cuz I'm super far behind. With that in mind, I put in a TV show that I've already seen a bunch so there's some background noise. GAME OF THRONES SEASON 1! I recently finished re-watching season 5 in preparation for season 6 start.

*CAUTION COULD BE SPOILERS!!*

It's so interesting going back to watching season 1 after just finishing season 5... cuz everyone I like is ALIVE! It's refreshing!.. And kind of sad... cuz I know what's going to happen.. :( And then there's the characters who are rather unpleasant who have died but they are alive right now and you are reminded of just how much you really don't like them and are glad they died. HAHA! Hmm, yeah. And for the characters who are alive thru the whole thing, it's interesting to see how they've changed. For example, some of them started out a bit unlikable but now they are cool.
Or vice versa
Game of Thrones has become one of my favorite TV shows. It is a very unique story. And the show is only 10 episodes per season, which is nice because they don't overkill. It's not a show for the faint of heart tho. There's quite a few "adult" scenes, especially in the first few seasons, and there's gore and violence. Watch at your own risk.
Anyways, this post wasn't supposed to turn into a Random Ramble about a TV show. Haha! Just kinda happened that way. But now I will actually go pick up my knitting bag and try to start that project now.
Enjoy the rest of your evening!

A Couple Old Projects

Hey Everybody!
So, for the last few days I had been stuck at my apartment because there was supposed to be an apocalyptic snow storm on Tuesday. The news was talking about it non stop and we were all expecting to be buried in snow for days and days. They even shut down schools by 6pm on Monday night. Well, the day arrived... and it was actually pretty nice out for most of the morning. Haha! It didn't even start snowing until after 12. Course it was coming down pretty hard and I still had to work until 2, but thruthfully it was not bad at all. It even stopped snowing by about 6pm. My street, which I'll add is a back road side street and doesn't get plowed until all the other streets are done, was plowed by 9pm. Basically, it was a HUGE disappointment. We only got maybe 5" of snow... Ha! Thank you weather channels for overreacting tremendously.
Anyways, now that I've explained why I haven't written a post in a while, I have a couple of projects to show you!
Up first is a COW HAT that I knit about 2 years ago
I bought a knitting book that has about 15 different animal hat patterns in it. I LOVE COWS, so that's pretty much the whole reason why I bought the book.
It was fun to make! There is a lining inside to make it extra warm. It really didn't even take that long to knit up either. Tho, there were lots of little parts that I had to sew on after they were all knit. That probably took the longest.
The reason I am posting about this hat is because I have a plan to make some more of the patterns as gifts for a few people. I won't talk about the specifics so as not to give anything away. But yeah! You will see those projects once they are finished :)

Next I wanted to show you something I made
for my niece, Leila.
It is a personalized hook board! (I don't know if that's the official name, but I couldn't think of how else to say it.)
Sorry, the picture is not the best quality... but each letter has a different paper covering it! They all match in a cool way. Bri and Ben decorated her room in the tealy blues and oranges, so I designed accordingly.
All the letter are wood and painted in blue to match the hooks and then I glued patterned paper to them. Its a fun project! I'd done it a few times before for my friends' children and Bri liked it, so I had to be sure to make her one! :)
As you might have guessed, I posted about this project because I will be making another one! I bought all the letters the other day and now I just have to find all the paper to cover them with. Better get cracking too, because little Oliver will be here before we know it! WOOT WOOT!!!
Well, I hope you enjoy the rest of your day! I will continue to watch some Oldy Von Moldy movies with my Dad! :)

Knitting Showers of Cake!

Hello Everyone!
So, I've got a few things to post about today but they all pertain to the same thing! And that's Oliver James!
Yesterday was the baby shower for him. Luckily I managed to finish the blanket I was knitting for him in time to give it as a gift. :)
Here it is! I actually really liked this pattern. It was quite simple and it knit up pretty quickly, which is definitely nice. I like quick knits. Haha!

Speaking of quick knits, I also made this little hat! :)

So, for the baby shower, I made the cake! It's a cake made by carving 2 10" round cakes and shaping them to look like a dinosaur! It is chocolate flavored and frosted with my homemade buttercream.
This cake was probably the most fun I've had making a cake in a while. It is definitely one of my favorites! :)
The shower went very smoothly and everyone
had a good time

There were a few unique games that mom found and they were fun!

So, I bought a different brand of cake boards and I really don't know why this happened to my cake and I was very unhappy about it...
The board itself was not wet, but it looks like it soaked in a whole bunch of moisture from somewhere and it made it look super gross. I will not be buying this brand again... >:( But other than that, everything was great!
Leila was having some fun with her cousin Scarlett

Anyways, good times were had by all! Brianna can't wait for Oliver to be born, and neither can the rest of us! :D
So, time to watch the rest of the Broncos game. GO BRONCOS! Since the Packers are out, I really want the Broncos to go to the Super Bowl! WOO PEYTON MANNING!

What's On Your Needles?

What's on Your needles tonight?
I am currently working on a blanket!
This picture is the best one for the color I'm working with. It is gorgeous and I love it! It is a very crisp dark green
Here is a picture that better shows the pattern, a zig zag. It is actually a very simple pattern and I know it's pretty popular. I see it quite a bit, whether the same technique is used or not I'm not sure.
I bought the yarn from Knit Picks! It's brava sport, which has become one of my favorite yarns actually. This particular color is called Dublin.
Do you think I have enough yarn? ;) Haha! Hopefully...
So anyways, let me know what projects you are working on! :)

What's On YOUR Needles?

So What's On Your Knitting Needles Today?
Well, today I have this lovely little cabled piece that will be part of a project I am knitting for my mom!
I think I'm going to keep what the project is a secret until I start with the main part of it tho :) You will just have to wait and see!

Also, mom and I went to JoAnns tonight because there was a Coupon Commotion going on! I had like... 8 50% off coupons!!! SO EXCITING!!!
LOOK WHAT I BOUGHT!!!
There is nothing better to buy (other than maybe yarn) than your favorite brand of super good needles! HOORAY! Can't really beat 1/2 price, unless of course they were free... Ha! So, since my main interest is knitting hats, I figured I would buy the rest of my circular and double point collection so I have (almost) every needle I would need to make a hat!
Life Achievement Has Been Reached
... Almost...
Haha!
There's always more needles! And I love them almost as much as yarn!

Anyways, let me know what you've been knitting lately!
Hope you have a wonderful Monday night! :)

My Giveaway Cabled Knit Slouchy Hat Is DONE!

Hey Everyone!
Oh my goodness I can tell that I really wanted to get this hat done! I was up until 12:30 last night finishing it. Haha! Then took another 30 minutes taking pictures of it! :)

So, here it is, the hat you've all been waiting for!
Here, you can see the cables a little better maybe. They go all the way up the hat, literally! The last cable was 2 rows before I closed it up!
This is probably one of my FAVORITE hat patterns now!
I just LOVE how this hat turned out!

And you can wear it
farther back
on your head...

Or you can pull
it forward
more!

Just HAVE FUN! :)

I might be a little sad to give this one up.
But I just know it will go to a GREAT home! To one of you lucky people out there!

That One Movie

Has it ever happened to you where you only want to watch one movie? Like you have this whole library of movies and you only want to watch the one that you have watched every night for the past week.
That's what I'm feeling right now.
What is my movie of choice?

The Brothers Grimm!
Starring Matt Damon and Heath Ledger

Now, this has got to be one of my top movies. It is in no way based on what actually happened to the Grimm brothers (who wrote all the fairytales... obviously ;)), but it kind makes it seem like this is where they got all the ideas for their stories (which they didn't). But it is just a very fun movie and I love the music especially, and the acting. Heath Ledger is one of my FAVORITE actors, I love him and it is so tragic what happened to him... :( Anyways, I would recommend it to you, but its not for the faint of heart.

It's true, I have watched this movie pretty much every night. I fall asleep to it. Now, I shall watch it while I knit the rest of my GIVEAWAY slouchy hat!

THERE IS STILL TIME TO JOIN!
Haha! It's only the 2nd day of my giveaway!

Anyways, hope you have a wonderful night! :)
I know I will because it will be filled with knitting!

Happy 100th Post GIVEAWAY!!! :D

Hooray Everyone!
This is my 100th Post!
That's just crazy! I looked at my homepage and it said 99 posts, and it took a minute to register that it meant the next one was 100! Haha!
But I am super excited! I asked my mom, who was a blogger long before me, what I should do and she said I should have a GIVEAWAY!
So that is just what I shall do! :)

***Sorry, but due to shipping costs this drawing is open to U.S. residents Only ***

Here are the simple rules:
 1. Write me a comment in this post and you will get 1 entry
2. Follow my blog and post another separate comment saying you follow and you will get a 2nd entry (even if you were already following me before this, still write a comment saying so)
3. Make a post on your blog about my giveaway then leave me another separate comment saying you did a post, maybe even put a link to it in the comment, and you will get a 3rd entry
Again, all of your comments have to be made on THIS POST otherwise they will not be counted.
That's all pretty easy right! And you could have your name in the drawing up to 3 times!
Now what, you may ask, will the drawing be for?
Well, I shall tell you!

The drawing for my 100th Post Giveaway is going to be this cable knit slouchy hat!
*Picture compliments of Celebrity Slouchy Beanies for the family

And it is going to be knit with this green Caron Simply Soft yarn!
I have not started it yet. I was originally going to do a different hat, but I ended up not liking how it was turning out so I figured that would be a bad one to have for a giveaway. Haha!
Anyways, I am going to start knitting tonight and will probably have it done by tomorrow or Tuesday and I will do a post with a picture of it.
*Picture compliments of Celebrity Slouchy Beanies for the family

So all that being said, you can start leaving comments obviously as soon as you see the post.

The deadline is FRIDAY FEB. 22nd at MIDNIGHT!!!
I will hold the drawing on SATURDAY FEB. 23rd and announce the winner that afternoon/night!

Best of luck to you all!
I had better start knitting! :)

A Few Of My Favorite Things

Hello Everybody!
So today, seeing as it is Saturday, we went SHOPPING! Ha! It's like there is nothing else to do on a Saturday... just like everyone else... who is also shopping... so you are just part of the madness. Yeah, I am not a big shopper and definitely not the person who goes on Saturdays.
BUT! Today was a special day because I had a purchase coupon for Joann Fabrics! So OF COURSE I had to go and make good use of this! So I bought a bunch of YARN! There is no better thing than coming home with a bag full of new yarn! :)

So while I was shopping around, I found another FREE pattern. (I'm not gonna say what it is because I'm going to knit it and surprise everyone!) But here is the yarn I got for said project
Sugar 'n Cream is one of my favorite brands. They knit up amazing wash cloths and... other... things... ;) NOPE I'M NOT TELLING!!!

But I also found THIS yarn!
It is Caron Simply Soft
I have never heard of or used this yarn, but it was on sale and I just grabbed a skein and felt it and oh my goodness is it SOFT!!! I have a couple hat patterns that I think it would be PERFECT for! And the colors are so pretty too :) I had a hard time choosing which colors I wanted, there were so many gorgeous ones!

Needless to say I am really excited to start some more projects with my NEW YARN! But now the question is... should I finish the ones I have going, or just start these and have about 5 going at once? Haha! We shall see :)

What's On YOUR Needles?

What's on YOUR knitting needles today?

I have a couple projects going.
Here is a brown square with left and right twists in it.
It is for a blanket that I am making. It is made with about 20 knit squares sewn together.
I only have 1 other square done so it might take me a while to be finished. But I am pretty excited about it! Some of the patterns look really fun and interesting. I was going to try and finish this square tonight, only need a couple more rounds of the pattern to go, but I think I will wait till tomorrow.

My other project is one I started because all my knitting stuff was packed away, including all my pattern books. So I shopped around JoAnns and found a free cable scarf pattern, got the materials to make it, and brought it to knit night!
It is rather tedious... which by the way is not my favorite kind of pattern... It has to measure about 60" and then you make pockets to go on each side. The pockets are what convinced me to make it, thought it was a neat idea! But it will definitely be a while before I finish it mostly because I don't like how tedious it is. HA!

Anyways, hope you had a good Valentine's Day! Mom and Dad got me candy and a neat pen with my name on it. :)
Have a great rest of your night!

Organization! - Day 22

Ahh, I just love yarn so much. :) It just makes me happy to come home from shopping with like 2 bags full of YARN! Haha! But just where to put it all? Well, I think it was about 6 months ago, I put up these cubes in my room to ORGANIZE my collection! Oh my word, it is amazing! I can actually find what I need now. Ha! Someday I might have an entire room just designated for my knitting or craft items. Lord knows I would probably fill it. ;)
Here's a picture of what it looked like before. Just everything in a bucket or on the floor spilling out everywhere. Very disorganized. :P
And NOW it is still a little messy, but at least it looks a little nicer. I can't imagine what it would look like if I didn't have the cubes. Ha! Quite a disaster if you ask me. ;)

Anyways, hope you have a wonderful rest of your Saturday night. I get to go to work. Ah well, life happens

Look Familiar? - Day 13 (1/2)

Oops, I was so busy yesterday that I forgot to do my Blogtoberfest post. Ha! Well, here it is!

Here is another one of those Haughty Hats! I really like the yarn that I used for this one, the color is beautiful and it was super nice to work with! I don't remember exactly what kind it was... :P I need to start writing them down. Haha! But yeah, this will make a nice Christmas gift, yes? :)
I couldn't figure out if the buckle is blue or black... it kinda looks like both. Haha!

Well, it's time to go babysitting! Today's post will come later! :)

Oh, Monday Mon- ... Wait, It's Tuesday! - Day 11

Aaand I finished that little hat I was working with on Sunday! I am just really happy that I had enough yarn to finish it. I was a little worried at the end, because it was becoming rather slim. But, it ended up being PERFECT! :)
I absolutely LOVE the green flecks with the brown. This yarn is probably one of my favorites from all that I have worked with! I believe it is just Lion Brand either Bulky or Super Bulky... Can't remember. Anyways, I LOVE IT!
For some reason today feels like it should be Monday... But I am definitely happy that it is actually Tuesday! :) Haha! My days are all sorts of mixed up this week. Well, better than it being Tuesday and feeling like Monday... I hate that... :P

Anyways, hope you have a wonderful TUESDAY night! :)

What's On Your Needles? - Day 9

What's On Your Knitting Needles Today?
Today, I have another one of my No Pattern hats! But instead of being for a 10 year old, this one is for my cousin who will be 6 in January! Goodness, I almost freaked myself out for a second because I thought he was going to be 7. Haha! But no, he will be 6.
I will probably end up finishing it tonight while I watch the Packer game! They play the Falcons in Atlanta at like 7:20. I love Sunday night games! :)

Well, I hope you have a wonderful rest of your Sunday! I know I will.
GO PACK GO!!!

Hm, There's An Idea! - Day 7

Washrags...
2 down... 4 to go...
Amazingly enough I am not quite sick of them yet! ;)
It's just the decreasing that is so annoying. I love increasing! Haha! Maybe I should just start making them triangle shaped washrags...
Hm, there's an idea!
Sugar 'n Cream...
It's the way to go...
:)

Well, TGIF! Hope you have a WONDERFUL Friday!!
